Namib Desert Ride 8-18 October 2014
The Namib Desert Ride is
without doubt our most challenging ride and is not for the
faint-hearted. The fittest riders undoubtedly find it easiest
and all guests must be comfortable enough to spend long days in the
saddle, be able to ride at all paces and still have the stamina to
water, feed and groom their horses before thinking about themselves
and a hot shower. There are some stretches of the ride when
we have to lead your horses over rocky ground. For those who
come physically prepared and are up for the challenge, this is one
adventure that is undeniably the ride of a lifetime.
Special
attractions:
World renowned red dunes of
Sossusvlei
Hugely contrasting
landshapes
Unrestricted riding across
endless desert plains
Kuiseb Canyon (described by
Henno Martin in his book “The Sheltering Desert” – an inspiring
read before your trip through this impressively rugged area where
they lived and somehow survived)
Since this is one of the
toughest rides in the world a high degree of physical fitness is
essential as well as extensive riding experience since we could
spend several hours a day in the saddle. We reserve the right
to rest horses should rider’s fitness level not be adequate to
support an independent seat. A good sense of humour to get
you through the tough times would be an added bonus! Please note
that this is a desert so routes can change due to unpredictable
weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
